To Persuade Consumers: You use promotion to persuade consumers of the superiority of your product(s)/service(s) over your competitors and to convince them you have the best solution to their unmet needs and wants. 4. To Promote a New Product: You can use promotion to introduce a new product(s)/service(s). You can inform the consumer about the availability, distinct features, and price. As well as what makes it necessary. 5. To Face Competition: Promotion helps you face your competition effectively by formulating and implementing effective market promotion strategies. 6. Business Application
It is difficult for small businesses to compete with the marketing budgets of large corporations. It’s vital that they use the resources they have to promote their product(s)/service(s). Spreading the word doesn’t have to be a dreary door-to-door mission. It can be fun, free, and effective. If you do your promotion right, your customers will

How do you address promotion for ministry? The same way you addressed target audience. If your church/ministry is only promoting itself, that is not what needs to happen. It needs to evangelize. Promotion is about sales and profit, evangelism isn’t about sales, it’s about relationship. It’s not about filling a building with people, it’s about filling

| | | | | | “We don’t have to compete in a world where mediocre things seem to be great because of good promotion. People will choose you, and your product(s)/service(s), when they understand both "what you offer" and "why your offer it”. - Dr. Pam Russell | | | | MORE From Business Development
absolutely run to work with you. There are many ways to promote your small business. However, there are some basic concepts that form the foundation of success. The “marketing mix” or “4 P's of marketing” was first introduced in the 1960s. The marketing mix includes: * Product/Service * Price * Place * Promotion Let’s look at each area a little closer. Product/Service: What is your product or service, and what value does it bring?
To market your product(s)/service(s) effectively, you need to understand the problems it solves, what differentiates it from your competition’s product(s)/service(s), and what benefits it provides to buyers. You need to know: * The features of your product(s) or service(s). * The benefits you provide your customers. * What needs your product(s) or service(s) meet. * What makes your product(s) or service(s) different from/better than those of your competitors. * Where your product(s) or service(s) are in the lifecycle. Is it new or established. Price: The price of a product(s)/service(s) is an essential part of its marketing.
For example, marketing and advertising for a luxury product might emphasize quality, guarantee how long the product will last, etc. For a discount product, you’d emphasize the cost savings. You need to know: * What is the perceived value of product(s)/service(s) like yours among your target customers? * What types of prices do your competitors charge for similar product(s)/service(s)? * If you want to charge more, what value/additional worth can you add to your product(s)/service(s) to charge a higher price? * How price-sensitive are your customers? * What types of promotional discounts can you offer and still make a profit? Place: This refers to where and how you sale your product(s)/service(s). This is also known as your distribution channels. For instance, you might sell to the local community in your store or sell to the world on your eCommerce website. B2B companies typically use salespeople to sell their product or service. You need to know: * Where do customers typically learn about product(s)/service(s) like yours? * Where are your product(s)/service(s) sold? * How do you get your product(s)/service(s) to the customer? * Do you sell your product(s)/service(s) directly or through resellers? * Do you have in-house salespeople? * How and where does your competition sell their product(s)/service(s)? Promotion: The industry uses promotion interchangeably with advertising or marketing. However, in reality, promotion encompasses both activities, plus public relations, word-of-mouth and more. Essentially, promotion is everything you do to spread the word about your business. You need to know: * Which promotional channels are right for your business. * Which sales promotions (discounts, sales, etc.) would drive customers while remaining cost effective. * What would be the best timing for promotions (for instance, offering discounts during the holiday shopping season) How can you put what you understand about promotion and put it into action? 1. Paid Advertising Whether your business is just starting out, or you are launching a new/updated product/service, you are competing against established brands. You want to promote yourself in your local newspaper, on social media, in online ads, and maybe even through direct mail marketing (like coupons and flyers). Consumers can’t buy what you are selling if they don’t know it exists. 2. Promote Online for Free You might not have the same budget as a larger competitor, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your name out there. You can use a free social media strategy and search engine optimization, including an optimized Google My Business listing. Positive reviews across search and social will reinforce your promotion efforts. * Social Media Strategy Social media is one of the cheapest ways to promote your business. It is as easy as setting up business pages on the social media channels that make sense for the product(s)/service(s) you sell. Typically, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram are the top choices. These networks allow businesses to set up their own pages and thus create an online presence in these communities for free. However, if you’re going to set up social media profiles, make sure you tend to them regularly. Don’t just set up everything because you feel you have to. Focus on what you can manage and keep up the conversations there. Engage with other Facebook groups, search for hashtags on Instagram that are related to your business, join in discussions online and post interesting topics on your own pages. You can also use social media to share sales, discounts, local news and events, behind the scenes look at your business and much more. Plus, social media is a great way to communicate with your customers directly to solve any issues they may be having. When you’re ready, you can start paying to promote content or even doing social media advertising. For the best long-term results, invest in social media advertising as well as just posting for free. * Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google My Business. Most marketing and advertising takes place online because that is how over 50% of people first learn about product(s)/service(s) they want to purchase. You can optimize your website for search engines by strategically using keywords and links. They help your site appear in customer’s search results. Optimizing your content for search engines seems complicated. However, there are a lot of beginner guides out there to get you started on this important long-term strategy. Optimizing your Google My Business page can help you rise to the top of local search results. Your business will also show up for local searches in Google with a unique format above the other search results. If unpaid search engine techniques aren’t working, you can try pay-per-click (PPC) advertising on search engine result pages. This will help attract the specific customers you’re looking for when they are ready to buy. While being more expensive than SEO, PPC is a fast, effective way to get more leads for your business now. * Reviews Across your local search results and your social media pages, there are opportunities for you to gather customer reviews. Seeing positive reviews help potential customers decide to buy from you or not. Excellent customer service builds customer loyalty. Loyal customers write positive reviews. 3. Build Customer Loyalty You can use promotion is also a valuable tool to enhance customer loyalty. After customers have purchased from you, you need to keep promoting your business to encourage them to keep coming back. Ongoing promotion lets your customers know that your business is still ready and willing to serve them. Some techniques to build customer loyalty include: * Offer excellent customer service in every aspect of your business. * Send birthday cards, offer gifts, nice packaging, free shipping or anything else that they will truly appreciate. * Be a valuable asset to the community. * Using email marketing to stay in touch with customers, share news, and offer exclusive discounts. * Consider implementing a customer loyalty program Building customer loyalty will help generate ongoing word-of-mouth promotion from your customers and help generate more positive reviews. 4. Email Marketing Email marketing is great for long-term promotion of your business with new and existing customers. You can pique the interest of a customer by offering discounts and valuable content like eBooks, checklists, etc. Once a customer has asked about your product or service, get their permission to send them emails from your business. Do you feel ready to promote your business? It’s not a matter of if, it’s how. You can use email marketing with social media, search engine advertising, reviews and customer loyalty. Search advertising will help you attract new customers, while email marketing can help you keep existing customers. Social media marketing can do it all. Now you just have to get started.

people with Jesus. There are two ways for a church/ministry to reach more people: advertising or evangelism. They are both forms of promotion. However, they are not the same thing. There’s nothing wrong with using social media, print ads, handouts, or other means to let people know about your church or its events. This advertising can be very helpful. But advertising can’t be a substitute for evangelism. * Evangelism, not advertising, must be at the core of every church’s strategy for reaching new people. * Advertising can support evangelism, not replace it. Evangelism, not advertising, must be at the core of every church’s strategy for reaching new people. If you think you can make advertising synonymous with evangelism, I hope these notes will change your mind. Note 1: It matters how you bring people into the church. As the old saying goes, “what you win them with is what you win them to.” If you’re bringing people in primarily through well-placed advertising, you’ll be drawing people who expect to receive what the ads promised. In other words, you’ll be drawing potential consumers, not future disciples. Note 2: It’s not enough just to get people in the room. Yes, you would love for people to come to your local church. However, what should matter is that you lead them to take a step closer to a relationship with Jesus. It should not matter if they join your church. You want them to become “the church” and associate with the body of Christ the Lord draws them to . Advertising is inherently narrow and selfishly draws a person to you, while evangelism is wide and selfless. If you compare the outcome of advertising with the outcome of evangelism, you will be able to see the difference.
| Advertising | Evangelism | | Impersonal and detached | Personal and connected | | Our Easter services start at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at this address! | Would you like to come with me to church this Sunday? | | Draws a crowd. | Builds the church. | | Is about hype | Is about passion. | | Promotes a specific church or event | Seeks to bring the lost to Christ. | | Uses the ideas of marketers to create customers. | Follows the mandate of Jesus to make disciples. | Yes, promotion is an active part of any business. Like it or not, the church is a business. Determine how you will run the business of the church. Promote events that will bring people into an environment where you can share the good news of Jesus. Your goal is not to increase your membership, rather to enlarge the body of Christ. Evangelism is a form of advertising. However, don’t stop there. Make sure you engage in a conversation to lift Jesus and He will draw all men unto Him. | | | | MORE From Personal Development
Imagine this: you’ve just accomplished something big that you’ve been working hard on for a while. You want other people to know about it and check it out. How do you make that happen? Do you turn to social media to advertise your success, or do you bring it up in conversation whenever the opportunity arises? Sharing without coming across as boastful can be tricky. To get comfortable with self-promotion, let’s narrow down what it is, how to do it, and why it’s an important skill to have. What is self-promotion? Highlighting your achievements and showcasing your experience and competency to others is self-promotion. It can also help you become more well-liked, reach an industry expert, or share your talents. Anyone can take part in self-promotion: entrepreneurs, business owners, freelancers, and artists, just to name a few. The benefits of self-promotion Self-promotion applies to both our professional and personal lives. It teaches us transferable skills that help our careers and help us overcome personal challenges. As we get into a habit of self-promotion, we’re working to eliminate our limiting beliefs. Highlighting our accomplishments fuels an “I can” attitude. It shows us what we’ve accomplished and banishes any previous thoughts suggesting otherwise. * It is a great way to work on your personal brand and broadcast your name. * You can use it to help you stand out in the crowd when interviewing or changing your career. * It is a way to speak up for yourself and your accomplishments. * It silences our inner critic that tried to tell us we couldn’t do it. * Teaches us the value of networking. * Boosts our confidence. * Causes us to engage, inspire, and motivate other people to be proud of their accomplishments. Examples of self-promotion In any situation, whether it’s in front of a large crowd or in a one-on-one interaction, self-promotion exists. * Giving a business card to a potential client to show you specialize in their area of need. * An entrepreneur who designs their own workout clothes wears them every time they go to the gym. * A journalist shares the link to their latest story on their social media accounts. * A baker hangs up a news article that they’re featured in on the wall in their store. Best ways to practice self-promotion. Maybe you’ve been holding off on self-promotion. You may be afraid you’ll come across as self-centered and boastful. Here’s what you need to keep in mind: you can be a team player and still highlight accolades and your own good work. * Do your best to network. Build a network of people involved with similar things. That could be connections with similar hobbies or people in your industry. Networking with like-minded individuals is easy. Plus, your network can share your accomplishments with other people in your field and further spread the word. * Don’t tear others down in the process. Your self-promotion shouldn’t come at anyone’s expense — especially those who helped you along the way or other team members. While you want to acknowledge your achievements, it’s not respectful or kind to insult others in the same sentence. Your success should not hinge on someone else’s failure. * Get comfortable with your strengths. Realize your strengths and skills are valuable. Take a moment to think about all that you appreciate about your skills wherever you are (i.e., at work, in your relationships, your hobbies, etc.) When we stop to identify our values, it helps us orient ourselves in a direction that focuses on them. Becoming more comfortable with our strengths helps us talk about them with greater ease and confidence. * Be honest and authentic. Lying is never a great option, and it’s certainly not a good thing to do when you’re promoting yourself. Rather than be someone you’re not, be genuine. Even if you’ve encountered troubles along the way with your work, it’s nothing to hide. People can sense when someone isn’t being genuine. * Select the right time and place. In order for you to be received, you have to know when to speak and when not to. Don’t steal someone else’s spotlight. Don’t turn someone else’s moment into a chance for you to outshine them. Remember, everything is not about you. The challenges self-promotion creates. With all that self-promotion can bring, there are some challenges, too. You should be aware of situations that can arise because of self-promotion. * You open yourself up to criticism from others. * You can feel pressure to perform for recognition and not just to do well consistently. * Your self-worth gets tied to how much attention you receive. * You can become prideful and arrogant. * People’s insecurities show up and lash out. * You can be described as selfish and less likable.
Moving forward If you’re new to self-promotion, it’s challenging. With practice, sharing your accomplishments smoothly will become second nature. Self-promotion for introverts can be especially difficult. However, it’s an invaluable skill to improve. It helps to reinforce positive self-talk and boosts confidence. Learning how to promote yourself might go against what your inner critic tells you; don’t listen. While you’re learning how to do some great self-promotion, you need to stay focused. A coach or mentor can provide the accountability you need as you build confidence and grow comfortable talking about your achievements.
